gas-to-energy

Today’s landfills are increasingly considered a potential source of energy.  The Authority currently has one landfill gas-to-energy facility on behalf of Anne Arundel County, that it designed, built and operates.  This facility provides both environmental and financial benefits.  Methane that in the past was flared will now be turned into electricity.

The Authority is currently exploring markets and plans to issue procurements for novel landfill gas to energy beneficial reuse projects.

The Authority markets available RECs generated from Prince George’s County landfill gas to energy projects and manages their electric output through the Authority’s PJM accounts.  These revenues go to the County.
