gas-to-energy
Today’s landfills are increasingly considered a potential source of energy. The Authority has developed four landfill gas-to-energy facilities on behalf of its member jurisdictions. These facilities provide both environmental and financial benefits. Methane that in the past was flared will now be turned into electricity.
The greenhouse gas-reduction benefits of these facilities is the equivalent of taking more than 69,000 cars off the road or planting 76,000 acres of forest. They also provide enough electricity to power 5,100 homes year-round.
